HOW IT WORKS

Three clear choices

  • Favorites stay private. Use them to remember homes your family loved.
  • Community Rating uses your latest score. Rating a home again updates it.
  • Three per household, per home. Everyone can vote. For each home, your household's first three ratings count, and a member with a visit level who rated in person can replace a lower-weight one.
  • Visit levels. Rate three new homes in person, no more than 25 minutes apart, to earn +0.25 on your in-person ratings for the season. Read the rules
  • Residents’ Choice is your Top 3. Each residence may use up to three family voting devices per category.

$1,500 in Amazon gift cards.People's Choice $300, $200 and $100 from neighbors' Community Rating across all three awards. Spooky, Too Cute To Spook and Fall Flavor: $250 to each first-place home, judged based on an objectively strict rubric for that award. How each prize is won

Vote early, earn a head start. Before Halloween day, your first five home ratings earn half leaderboard points and your next five earn quarter points. On Halloween, from 6 AM to 9 PM, every new home rating earns full points. Early voting is fine and encouraged for anyone not chasing the leaderboard; every rating counts the same for the decorating contest. To win the leaderboard, rate most homes on Halloween day. How points work

No live results.Ratings, ballots, and judging remain sealed until voting closes and results are approved.

OFFICIAL RULESHow ratings and family ballots countRead the rules

Community Rating

  • Rate each home for the award it entered: Spooky, Too Cute To Spook or Fall Flavor. People's Choice compares eligible Community Ratings across all three awards. Fall Flavor is for autumn and harvest decorating, so rate it on its fall display, not on Halloween spookiness.
  • Your latest 1 to 10 score for a home is the one that counts.
  • Each person's latest score for a home counts, within the household voting rule below.
  • Rate as many or as few homes as you like. You can rate your own home.
  • A rating saved while you are at the home counts extra, high or low, any day voting is open, and more as you earn visit levels. Your own home counts extra only after you earn a level at other homes. Your phone reports only whether you were there.
  • A home must meet the category’s minimum number of independent rating groups to qualify (normally three). Exact Community Rating averages decide places. A paid-place tie goes to a community runoff; a remaining tie shares the prize pool for the occupied places.

Residents’ Choice

  • Each household may cast up to three ballots per category, one per device. Enter your home address on each device before voting.
  • Each device ranks one first, second, and third place ballot worth 3, 2, and 1 points.
  • You may edit the same ballot until voting closes.
  • Ties use total points, first-place votes, then second-place votes. Remaining ties share the honor.

Household voting rule

Each registered household may have up to three people count toward each decorated home's score. A household's first three ratings of a home count at first. A later household member who has earned a visit level and rated that home in person can replace the lowest-weight of those three, if their rating carries more weight. Everyone else in the household is welcome to vote and earn leaderboard points, but their ratings do not change that home's score. The limit applies separately to every decorated home, and there is no limit on how many households can register or take part. Each person votes with their own profile, and signing in on another phone keeps the same profile.

Visit levels

  • You can always vote without sharing your location. A rating saved while you are at the home counts extra, any day voting is open.
  • Rate three new decorated homes in person with no more than 25 minutes between each, and your profile earns a visit level: +0.25 more weight on your in-person ratings. Three homes can take up to 50 minutes in total, as long as no gap is longer than 25 minutes.
  • An earned level stays for the whole voting season. After 25 minutes without a new home, only unfinished progress (one or two homes) resets, so the next level takes three new homes.
  • A new level also applies to the ratings you made in person earlier, even on another day. It changes how much your rating counts, never the score you chose.
  • Each decorated home counts once toward your levels. Levels belong to your own profile, not your family or household.
  • Your own home counts extra only after you earn a level at other homes and rate it while you are there, before or after your walk.
  • A higher weight makes an honest high or low rating count more. Low ratings are welcome; confirmed manipulation can remove earned bonuses.

Fair participation

  • You may rate your own home, even if it is the only home you rate.
  • Experience awards require a confirmed household visit. Visual awards use approved photos.
  • Voting is subject to fairness protections. Honest opinions are welcome.
  • No live totals, favorite counts, or popularity ordering are shown while voting is open.
